Honouring Mothers and Indigenous Traditions in the Heart of Vancouver
Experience a weekend of powerful drumming, vibrant regalia, and cultural celebration at the Mother’s Day Traditional Pow Wow 2025, hosted by the Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council (MVAEC). Taking place from May 9 to May 11 at John Hendry Park in Vancouver, this free, three-day event offers a space for community, healing, and honouring the sacred role of mothers in Indigenous cultures.
Set outdoors on the South-West Baseball Diamond of the park, the pow wow features traditional dance and drumming circles that bring together communities from across the region. Spectators are encouraged to witness the beauty, pride, and resilience of Indigenous cultures through this open invitation to learn and connect.
🌿 A Cultural Gathering Rooted in Respect
The Mother’s Day Traditional Pow Wow is held on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
This event provides a welcoming and respectful space for all community members to celebrate Indigenous heritage, values, and traditions. No registration is required — just bring your good energy and open heart.

✅ Drumming and Dance: Daily pow wow performances led by drummers and dancers in traditional regalia.
✅ Vendor Village: A collection of local Indigenous vendors offering handmade goods, art, beadwork, and cultural items.
✅ Elder Room: A quiet and respectful space inside the community centre for Elders to gather, rest, and share stories.
✅ Meal Service: Warm meals will be provided to participants and guests inside the community centre.
