This mix of community spirit, creativity, and seasonal excitement makes it one of the most heartwarming and haunting experiences in Metro Vancouver.

    History and Inspiration

The story of Alouette Cemetery began with creators Brad and Stacey Lyle, whose passion for Halloween led them to transform their front yard into an extraordinary haunted experience. What started as a simple skeleton stirring a cauldron quickly evolved into an elaborate showcase of animatronics, sound effects, and storytelling.

During the pandemic, the project became both a creative outlet and a community gift. Brad began handcrafting detailed figures and moving props, while Stacey contributed artistic touches and design ideas. Over the years, the display has grown into a community collaboration, with friends and neighbours helping bring the cemetery to life each October.

Beyond its eerie charm, Alouette Cemetery symbolizes unity and generosity. Each year, visitors contribute to Katie’s Place Animal Shelter, turning their Halloween fun into meaningful support for local animals.

    The Legend of Alouette Cemetery

Along the serene banks of the Alouette River, a forgotten graveyard once slept in silence for centuries. Known only in whispers, it began to awaken under mysterious circumstances — giving rise to The Legend of the Funeral of Shadows, a haunting spectacle where skeletons gathered to mourn under a veil of mist.

According to local lore, two ancient protectors known as the Guardians of Shadows cast a spell over the cemetery in the 1800s to ensure the spirits within would never be forgotten. Each October, as autumn arrives and the veil between worlds thins, the cemetery reappears — inviting the living to witness its ghostly spectacle.

Visitors today experience echoes of this legend through animatronic skeletons, fog-shrouded tombstones, and immersive storytelling, bringing to life the spirits and myths of Maple Ridge’s most mysterious graveyard.
