Alouette Cemetery is a free, award-winning Halloween haunt in Maple Ridge, known for its many hand-crafted, moving animatronic skeletons and whimsical tombstones. Everything at this spooky spectacle is homemade, delighting visitors of all ages. Get out of your car to catch all the details.
The Legend of Alouette Cemetery
Along the banks of the Alouette River, a historic cemetery had slumbered in obscurity since the early 1800s. According to local legend, its recent reappearance stems from a long-forgotten curse laid by two mysterious figures known as the Guardians of Shadows, tasked with protecting the spirits buried within. The story traces back to an eerie event called the Funeral of Shadows, when twelve skeletons were said to gather around a weathered coffin as a preacher's voice echoed through the mist. As legend has it, the cemetery is hidden from the mortal world for most of the year, only becoming visible each October, when the boundary between the living and the afterlife is believed to be at its thinnest.
From Backyard Project to Neighbourhood Tradition
Alouette Cemetery began with Brad and Stacey Lyle and a single animatronic skeleton stirring a cauldron in their yard. During pandemic lockdowns, Brad started imagining a whole yard full of animatronics, and what followed was years of building columns, fencing, and additional moving skeletons in a garage turned workshop. The display has grown into a collaborative neighbourhood effort, with friends and neighbours pitching in on the build each year, and something new added every season.
Supporting Katie's Place Animal Shelter
Alouette Cemetery collects donations for Katie's Place Animal Shelter, turning the display into a way to give back to the community alongside the seasonal fun.

Follow 227th Street in Maple Ridge north toward 128th Ave, then turn right on 227A Street. The display is right on the corner.
