Overview:
Join us for an extraordinary day of free musical performances and activities at the Day of Music presented by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO). Spanning 12 hours, this community event is designed to bring together music lovers of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy over 100 performances across multiple stages throughout Vancouver.
Event Highlights:
- Free Musical Performances: Enjoy a diverse lineup of performances featuring classical, jazz, pop, and more. With over 100 acts, there’s something to delight everyone in the family.
- Multiple Stages: Performances will take place at iconic venues including The Orpheum, VSO School of Music, Christ Church Cathedral, and several stages across Yaletown, TELUS Garden, Deloitte, and YVR.
- Pop-Up Concerts: Keep an eye out for surprise pop-up concerts around Downtown Vancouver and YVR, adding an element of spontaneity and excitement to the day.
Grand Finale:
The day concludes with a spectacular free concert by the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at 8 PM, conducted by VSO Music Director Otto Tausk. The concert features the Sinfonietta and showcases a selection of timeless classics, including:
- Glinka: Ruslan and Ludmila
- Tchaikovsky: Sleeping Beauty: Suite, Op. 66a
- Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 (New World) - Selections Side by Side with Sinfonietta
- Badelt: Pirates of the Caribbean (The Curse of the Black Pearl)
- Sarasate: Fantasy of Bizet’s “Carmen”, Op. 25, featuring violinist Yaming Zhu
- Stravinsky: Firebird: Berceuse and Finale
Online Programming:
In addition to the live performances, this year’s Day of Music will feature online programming focused on musical learning.
