VanDusen Botanical Garden 50-Year Celebration

Event Overview

Join the VanDusen 50-Year Celebration on Saturday, August 30, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the VanDusen Botanical Garden, located at 5251 Oak Street, Vancouver. This milestone event honours five decades of beauty, learning, and community at one of Vancouver’s most beloved gardens. Guests will enjoy live performances, guided historical tours, educational workshops, family-friendly activities, food vendors, and interactive themed zones designed to inspire curiosity and connection with nature.

Admission:

• Free for Garden Members

• Included with regular Garden admission (online ticket purchase recommended)

Activities & Themed Zones

🌿 Biodiversity Zone

Learn about climate change, local ecosystems, and Indigenous perspectives on biodiversity through interactive exhibits. Vancouver Master Gardeners will also be available for expert advice.

🎨 Art Zone

Create eco-friendly crafts, participate in art workshops, view plein air painting demonstrations, and relax in the Library Chill-Out Station.

🌱 Learning Garden Zone

Discover how plants create dyes, taste local honey, and learn about bees and pollination in the Garden’s newest interactive zone.

Performances on the Great Lawn

• 11:00 AM – Tsatsu Stalqayu (Coastal Wolf Pack) – Coast Salish family dance group

• 12:00 PM – Oh Clementine – Family-friendly folk music

• 1:00 PM – Taiko Drumming – GO Taiko & Taiko 55

• 2:00 PM – Aurora Celebration Choir – Global repertoire with percussion

• 3:30 PM – Rumba Calzada – Latin jazz & salsa

Bring a picnic blanket or low chairs; formal seating not provided.

• Food Vendors: Chickpea, Berrymobile, Uno Gelato, Chouchou Crepes, Green Coast Coffee, Lucha Libre & more

• Guided Historic Tours: Every 30 minutes (10 AM – 5 PM) led by Garden Guides

• Special Exhibits: Vancouver Dahlia Society’s Annual Dahlia Show (Floral Hall)

• Community Partners: Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, Japan Fair Association, Fleurs de Villes, and others offering cultural workshops and fun activities

• Archives & Library: Explore Japanese Canadian history, view Glora King’s nature photography exhibit, and browse western Canada’s largest horticultural library

Visitor Information

• Hours: Garden open 9 AM – 7 PM; event activities run 10 AM – 5 PM

• Parking: Free but limited; transit strongly recommended (#17 Oak bus or 15-min walk from Oakridge Canada Line)

• Accessibility: Fully accessible paved paths and washrooms; designated accessible seating areas

• Pets: Only guide and service dogs permitted

• Other rules: No smoking, bicycles, scooters, or skateboards allowed inside
