Description
This powerful concert celebration of music from the Black experience traces a 300-year journey—from work songs and spirituals to the rise of Soul, R&B, Blues, and Motown. The program highlights the evolving emancipation and cultural impact of African Descent communities from a North American perspective.
Both entertaining and insightful, the concert is framed with intention and meaning. It is a full music experience filled with transformative songs - all accompanied by brief contextual narratives that explores how each song or artist moved the needle forward—or, at times, backward—for the Black community. These unspoken stories are more of a side show, rather than the main event, and are shared through the digital program and stage projections. Performed by a professional ensemble of BC artists, the concert centers Black lived experience through the centuries up to and including the civil rights movement.
