Burnaby's new Car Free Day brings a full street festival to Edmonds St, part of a nationwide initiative encouraging people to leave their cars at home and connect with their community. Expect live entertainment across three stages, food trucks, community booths, and family activities spread along the closed-off street, with free admission for everyone.

Main Stage Performers
This year's lineup includes Yoro Noukoussi and the African Masters (West African rhythms on donga, djembe, and kokomba), violinist and educator Jessica Tseng, Pasión Venezuela Dancing Group, the Anahaw Filipino Canadian Performing Arts Society, APPARE Yosakoi (Canada's first West Coast Yosakoi team), CUMBALE (Colombian folklore), Wailele Wai Wai (contemporary Hawaiian hula), dancer and instructor Nico Rana, Los Timberos (Cuban timba and casino), Latin dance instructor Giordano Duberger, flamenco artist Lili Flamenco, and Las Divinas Folklore Dance Group performing Dominican, Caribbean, and African-rooted dance.
Food Trucks
Tacosaurus, Shameless Buns, Hugs Mini Donuts, JJ's Hot Cobs, Cravings Kettle Corn, Peace Sweetz, Rolled West Coast, and Lemon Heaven.
Getting There
Road closures: Edmonds St (Kingsway to Mary Ave), Humphries Ave (19th Ave to Vista Crescent), Linden Ave, Noble Ln, and Fulton Ave are closed from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM on August 30. King's Crossing residential access is maintained via Noble Ln.
Parking: No on-site public parking. Street parking restrictions are in effect from 11:59 PM August 29 to 12:01 PM August 31 — vehicles not moved by then will be towed. A SPARC pick-up/drop-off zone is available at Edmonds Community Centre off Vista Cres and Fulton Ave.
Transit: Bus routes 106 Edmonds and 106 New West are detoured for the day, with additional bus service added from Edmonds SkyTrain Station to the event (about a 10-minute ride or 25-minute walk). Checking TransLink or Google Maps ahead of time is recommended.
Bike valet: A free, attended bicycle valet is available on Noble Lane, just east of Kingsway, accepting bikes, strollers, and scooters of all sizes.
What to Know Before You Go
- Rain or shine — the event proceeds regardless of weather
- No site capacity limit
- Lawn chairs permitted, but tents, tarps, and umbrellas are not
- Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome (no outside alcohol, no knives on site)
- Pets are not permitted, with the exception of working service animals
- Non-smoking event, in line with Burnaby's smoke-free parks policy
- Two water bottle refill stations on site (Linden Ave & Edmonds St, and near the info tent outside Edmonds Community Centre)
- Portable washrooms, including accessible units, are available throughout the site, alongside restrooms inside Edmonds Community Centre
- Items not permitted: weapons of any kind, frisbees or balls, flags/signs on sticks, banners, barbeques, fires, musical instruments, laser pointers, fireworks, and alcohol/drugs
