    Description

Spinning Chandelier Vancouver – A Must-See Public Art Gem Under the Granville Street Bridge

Nestled beneath the Granville Street Bridge in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the Spinning Chandelier is one of the city’s most striking and unconventional public art installations. Suspended over the intersection of Beach Avenue and Granville Street, this giant kinetic sculpture dazzles with light, motion, and intricate design—offering a free spectacle that surprises and delights anyone passing by.

Created by acclaimed Canadian artist Rodney Graham, this 3,400-kilogram chandelier combines classical elegance with modern technology. It descends, spins, and lights up three times a day, transforming an overlooked area into a must-visit destination for art lovers, tourists, and locals alike.

    What Is the Spinning Chandelier?

The Spinning Chandelier is no ordinary light fixture—it’s a 25.5-foot-tall, 14-foot-wide sculpture made from stainless steel, LED lights, and over 600 faux crystal components. Inspired by French 18th-century chandeliers and conceptual art, it descends dramatically, rotates at 20 revolutions per minute, and then returns to its original position—all in a choreographed 4-minute performance.

This grand installation is part of the Vancouver House development project by Westbank Corp. and is considered one of the most ambitious public art projects in Canada, with a price tag of approximately $4.8 million.

    Daily Performance Times

Want to catch the chandelier in motion? Plan your visit around its daily activation times:

    • 🕛 12:00 PM

    • 🕓 4:00 PM

    • 🕘 9:00 PM

After the 4:00 PM rotation, the chandelier remains illuminated until 11:00 PM, casting an enchanting glow on the street below and making it a fantastic spot for night photography in downtown Vancouver.

Best Photo Tips & Local Insights

📸 Top photo spots: Stand across the street near Rolston Street to capture the full chandelier with the Granville Bridge in the background.

👀 Local vibe: This area is also a gateway to False Creek, Yaletown, and the Seawall, so many locals pass by during evening walks or bike rides.
