Event Overview
Canyon Lights at Capilano Suspension Bridge is one of Metro Vancouver’s most iconic winter events, attracting visitors from around the world. Each holiday season, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park transforms into a spectacular forest of light, illuminating its famous attractions—including the Suspension Bridge, Treetops Adventure, and Cliffwalk—with thousands of sparkling displays.
Set within an old-growth rainforest high above the Capilano River, Canyon Lights offers an unforgettable winter evening combining nature, light, and storytelling. The event is fully outdoors and features elevated walkways, scenic viewpoints, and immersive installations that celebrate the beauty of British Columbia’s West Coast landscape.
Whether you’re looking for a holiday photo spot, a family-friendly seasonal outing, or a uniquely Vancouver winter experience, Canyon Lights remains one of the region’s most anticipated annual events.
Event Highlights
Suspension Bridge Illumination
The 140-metre Capilano Suspension Bridge—one of the most recognized attractions in Canada—lights up with thousands of LEDs, creating a glowing pathway suspended 70 metres above the canyon. Visitors can walk the length of the bridge while surrounded by illuminated treetops and dramatic canyon views.
Treetops Adventure
Treetops Adventure features a series of elevated walkways suspended between eight towering Douglas fir trees. During Canyon Lights, the trees are lit from base to canopy, creating one of the tallest holiday light displays in the country. Each viewing platform offers a different perspective of the forest’s glow.
Cliffwalk: Arc de Lumina
Cliffwalk—a narrow walkway clinging to the side of the granite cliff—transforms into an interactive light experience known as Arc de Lumina. The installation combines moving light patterns and synchronized displays, highlighting the natural curves and textures of the canyon wall.
The World’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree
One of the standout features of Canyon Lights is the park’s tribute to what is often promoted as the “World’s Tallest Living Christmas Tree,” an enormous illuminated Douglas fir reaching over 250 feet. The tree is lit with thousands of lights, visible throughout the forest.
Rainforest Light Displays
Throughout the park, pathways are lined with glowing installations, forest lanterns, starry light projections, themed photo areas, and ambient displays designed to enhance the natural environment rather than overshadow it. The integration of light with the forest floor, canopy, and river creates an atmosphere that feels both peaceful and magical.
Kids’ Activities & Seasonal Programming
Families can enjoy holiday-themed installations, educational displays, and self-guided activities. Canyon Lights typically includes interactive elements that highlight local wildlife, sustainable forestry, and the cultural history of the region.
Seasonal Treats & Hot Beverages
The park café offers warm seasonal drinks, holiday snacks, and dining options for visitors looking to enjoy refreshments during their nighttime experience.
