JEON: Modern Korean Dining on Davie Street from Chef Tom Jeon
JEON is a modern Korean restaurant at 1160 Davie Street in Vancouver's West End, opened in September 2025 by Chef Tom Jeon, the chef behind popular sushi spots Tom Sushi and Tozen Sushi Bar. Here he turns to the food of his own Korean upbringing, serving everything from traditional dishes to the trendier things people are eating in Seoul right now, with refined plating and a strong cocktail list.
Read on for the story behind JEON, the dishes to try and how to plan your visit.
About JEON
The restaurant is named after its chef, and it also shares a name with jeon, the savoury Korean pancakes that appear on the menu in upscale form. JEON took over the large former Moxies space on Davie Street, inside the Sandman Hotel, after a year of construction. Chef Jeon has said that Davie Street means a lot to him because Tom Sushi has been part of the neighbourhood for years.
The concept is to reimagine time-honoured Korean flavours with refined technique, and the dining room design adds touches that reflect the chef's Korean roots.
The Menu
How It Works
JEON serves dinner, with a menu split into appetizers, sharing plates and mains. Order a few small plates for the table and anchor the meal with one of the signature mains.
What to Order
- Woodae galbi: the heart of the menu: prime rib sous-vide for 12 hours, served with green onion salad, pickled radish and vinegared perilla leaf for wrapping. Chef Jeon calls it Korea's answer to steak.
- Jeon (Korean pancakes): including kimchi jeon, the restaurant's namesake dish.
- Yukhoe: Korean-style beef tartare.
- Truffle japchae: glass noodles given a luxurious upgrade.
- Kimchi arancini and house-made dumplings: playful starters that mix Korean flavours with familiar formats.
- Gomtang and Korean fried chicken: comforting classics done with care.
Dietary Needs
The menu includes beef, pork, seafood and vegetable dishes. Let your server know about allergies; many Korean sauces contain soy, sesame and wheat.
Drinks: Cocktails and Korean Spirits
JEON has built a reputation for its cocktails, which bring Korean ingredients into modern drinks. There is also soju, Korean beer and wine to pair with the sharing plates.
Atmosphere and Dining Experience
The space is large and stylish, with a modern design and a lively evening crowd. It works as well for a group celebration as for a date.
- Best for: date nights, group dinners and pre-show meals in the West End
- Noise level: moderate to lively
- Dress code: smart casual
- Good to know: the Woodae galbi is a large sharing dish best ordered with friends
