02 The story
Two villages, one walkable centre
Just north of Inlet Centre station, Suter Brook and Newport Village form Port Moody’s most walkable shopping area. Newport Village came first, built as a pedestrian-oriented cluster of low-rise shops with condo towers above and around them. Suter Brook followed on the other side of Ioco Road with a similar mix of homes, a grocery store, restaurants and services arranged around a central plaza.
Together they work like a small town centre. You can pick up groceries, see a dentist, meet friends for coffee and grab dinner without moving the car. Many residents never need to leave for everyday errands, and the SkyTrain station makes the rest of the region easy to reach.
Civic centre next door
The Port Moody Civic Centre on Newport Drive brings together City Hall, the public library and the Inlet Theatre, a small venue for concerts, plays and community events. The Port Moody Recreation Complex on Ioco Road, with its pool, arenas and fitness facilities, is a short walk away.
Green space on the doorstep
Despite the density, nature is close. Paths along the eastern end of Burrard Inlet connect toward Rocky Point Park and the Shoreline Trail, a pleasant walk from the villages. Heading north on Ioco Road leads to the Ioco neighbourhood, Belcarra Regional Park and Sasamat Lake.
Tip: weekends can be busy around the plazas, especially when events are on at the Civic Centre. Parking is available underground in both villages, but taking SkyTrain to Inlet Centre is often simpler.
