Amay's House: Family-Run Burmese Cooking on Kingsway
Amay's House is a family-run Burmese restaurant at 3293 Kingsway in Vancouver's Collingwood area. It is owned by chef Hihaa Kyaw and his wife, Mya Nyunt, and is one of very few places in the city devoted to the food of Myanmar.
The restaurant first opened on Victoria Drive in 2013 and won Gold for Best Other Asian Restaurant at the 2015 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards. Here's what to order.
About Amay's House
After closing its Victoria Drive room in 2022, the family kept cooking through a Richmond Night Market stall called Burmese Cuisine. Amay's House then reopened on Kingsway in October 2023, in the space that once housed Fighter Chicken.
The room is simple and homey, and the menu mixes core Burmese recipes with dishes that show Indian, Chinese and Malaysian influence.
