Anatoli Souvlaki: Lower Lonsdale's Greek Institution Since 1984
Anatoli Souvlaki is a family-run Greek restaurant at 5 Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver. Helen Babalos and Thomas Makris opened it in spring 1984, and it celebrated 40 years in 2024.
Their sons Alexi and Iani took over in 2011, and later expanded with The Greek by Anatoli. Here's what to know.
About Anatoli Souvlaki
Thomas, from the island of Skopelos, met Helen at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974 while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. They opened in what was then sleepy Lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant.
Anatoli is known for classic Greek dishes with plenty of garlic, served with warm hospitality across generations of North Shore diners.
