02 The story
Parks, co-ops and the south-east corner of the city
Killarney sits in the far south-east corner of Vancouver, bordering Burnaby and the Fraser River. It is a green, residential neighbourhood that includes the planned community of Champlain Heights, with its townhouses, co-ops and trails.
Champlain Heights
Developed from the 1970s on former city land, Champlain Heights was designed around footpaths, green belts and mixed housing, including many housing co-operatives. Today it is a quiet, close-knit community where trails connect homes to parks and schools.
Everett Crowley Park
Everett Crowley Park, built on a former landfill, has grown into one of the city’s largest urban forests, with wooded trails, meadows and views towards the Fraser River and Mount Baker. It is a favourite for dog walkers and nature lovers.
Killarney Park and community centre
Killarney Community Centre includes a pool, ice rink and fitness facilities, and the surrounding park has sports fields and playgrounds. Champlain Square offers groceries and everyday shopping.
Getting around
Buses connect Killarney to Joyce–Collingwood Station and Metrotown, both a short ride away, and Burnaby’s shopping and parks are close by.
