02 The story

Homes on the hill above the river

Citadel Heights covers the higher ground in south Port Coquitlam, roughly around Citadel Drive and Pitt River Road. Today it is a mix of townhouse complexes, low-rise condos and detached homes on winding streets. From the higher properties, residents get views across Port Coquitlam toward the mountains to the north.

The area is mainly residential, so it feels calm compared with downtown. Neighbourhood parks such as Citadel Heights Park give kids room to play, and local elementary and middle schools, including Citadel Middle School, are within walking distance of many homes. Riverside Secondary serves older students nearby.

Close to the river and the bypass

One of Citadel Heights’ advantages is location. The Mary Hill Bypass runs just to the south, giving drivers quick access to Highway 1, New Westminster and Burnaby without travelling through downtown. Downtown Port Coquitlam’s shops on Shaughnessy Street are a short drive or a longer walk to the north.

The Traboulay PoCo Trail passes close by. Its southern section follows the river to Citadel Landing, a boardwalk with open views over the water, and continues west toward Colony Farm Regional Park on the Coquitlam River, a large area of meadows and wetlands known for birdwatching.

Citadel Heights is a practical choice rather than a destination for visitors. Come for a trail walk or a visit with friends, then head downtown for food. For residents, it offers a good balance of quiet streets, schools and commuter convenience.
