02 The story
Townhomes, sloughs and mountain views
Riverwood covers much of northeast Port Coquitlam, running from Coast Meridian Road east toward the Pitt River and the Pitt Meadows border. Its streets are lined with townhouse complexes, detached homes and pockets of newer development. Many homes back onto green space, and on clear days the Golden Ears mountains dominate the view to the east.
The neighbourhood is popular with families. Several elementary schools are spread through the area, Minnekhada Middle School is nearby and Terry Fox Secondary serves older students. Parks such as Blakeburn Lagoon Park, Cedar Park and Evergreen Park give each section of the neighbourhood its own green space.
On the edge of the PoCo Trail
Riverwood’s location makes it one of the best bases for exploring the Traboulay PoCo Trail. The northern sections follow Hyde Creek, known for its salmon and community hatchery, and DeBoville Slough, a quiet waterway where the trail opens onto farmland and Golden Ears views. Bald eagles, herons and river otters are regular sightings. Minnekhada Regional Park, with its marshes and forest loops, is a short drive north in Coquitlam.
For shopping, most residents head south to the big-box stores, supermarkets and restaurants clustered near Lougheed Highway and the Pitt River Bridge. Coquitlam Centre is a short drive west, and Pitt Meadows is just across the river.
Tip: DeBoville Slough is a favourite sunset walk. Park near the trail access and walk east along the dike for the best views.
