Gurkha Himalayan Kitchen: Nepali and Tibetan Cooking in Davie Village
Gurkha Himalayan Kitchen serves Nepali and Tibetan food from an upstairs room at 1141 Davie Street in the West End. It opened in the early 2010s and is now run by owners Raju Bhattrai and chef Prakash Adhikari.
It is one of the longest-running Nepalese restaurants in Vancouver. Here's what to order.
About Gurkha Himalayan Kitchen
The owners like to stress that Nepali food is its own cuisine, not a branch of Indian cooking. It draws on both India and Tibet and uses herbs and spices from the Himalayas.
The restaurant sits up a flight of stairs in a house above Davie Street, decorated with Nepali carvings, and there is a patio at the back. Adhikari describes the menu as comfort food from the Nepal he grew up in.
