02 The story
A neighbourhood in transformation
Oakridge sits in the middle of Vancouver’s south side, around Cambie Street and 41st Avenue. Long known as a quiet residential area built around a shopping centre, it is now one of the city’s fastest-changing neighbourhoods, as the redevelopment of the Oakridge Centre site adds homes, shops, offices and a large new park.
Shopping and services
Oakridge Park, on the former Oakridge Centre site at Cambie and 41st, is the neighbourhood’s retail heart. Around it, 41st Avenue and Cambie Street offer restaurants, cafés, banks and medical services.
Community
Oakridge is home to a large Jewish community, and the Jewish Community Centre of Greater Vancouver at Oak Street and 41st Avenue is a major hub. The neighbourhood is also known for its diverse food scene, including many Asian restaurants and bakeries.
Homes and parks
Tree-lined streets of single-family homes surround the busy core, while new towers rise near the station. Oakridge Park and nearby Columbia Park and Queen Elizabeth Park offer green space.
Getting around
Oakridge–41st Avenue Station on the Canada Line is in the centre of the neighbourhood, about 15 minutes from downtown and 15 minutes from the airport, with frequent buses along 41st Avenue.
