02 The story
Queen Elizabeth Park, baseball and Main Street
Riley Park stretches along Main Street south of 16th Avenue and includes one of Vancouver’s most famous green spaces, Queen Elizabeth Park. Its streets of character houses and local shops give it a friendly, neighbourly feel, while its parks draw visitors from across the city.
Queen Elizabeth Park
Built on Little Mountain, the highest point in the city, Queen Elizabeth Park offers sweeping views of downtown and the North Shore Mountains. Its quarry gardens are a favourite for photos and weddings, and the Bloedel Conservatory, a domed tropical garden at the summit, is home to exotic plants and free-flying birds.
Sports and markets
Nat Bailey Stadium, home of the Vancouver Canadians baseball team, is one of the most charming ballparks in the country. Next door, Hillcrest Community Centre hosted curling during the 2010 Winter Olympics. Vancouver Farmers Markets runs a popular winter market nearby.
Main Street
Main Street through Riley Park has cafés, family restaurants, vintage and antique shops and local services, quieter than the busy stretch further north in Mount Pleasant.
Who it suits
Families, sports fans and anyone who wants big parks close to home enjoy Riley Park, with downtown about 15 minutes away by bus.
