02 The story
A town centre on a human scale
Pitt Meadows Town Centre is small, which is exactly its appeal. Most of the city’s civic life happens along a short stretch of Harris Road, between Lougheed Highway and the railway tracks. City Hall, the Pitt Meadows Family Recreation Centre, Spirit Square and a cluster of shops, cafés, restaurants and services are all within a few minutes’ walk of each other.
Spirit Square, beside City Hall, is the community’s outdoor gathering place, with space for markets, concerts and seasonal events. The recreation centre next door has fitness facilities, programs and rooms for community groups, and the Pitt Meadows Heritage Hall further along Harris Road hosts events in a historic setting.
History close at hand
The Pitt Meadows Museum preserves the Hoffmann and Son shop and house, part of the town’s early commercial life, and Hoffmann Park nearby offers green space. The museum is a good introduction to the city’s farming and diking history, and to the Katzie First Nation’s long connection to the land.
Shopping and parks
Lougheed Highway is lined with larger stores and plazas, including Meadowtown Centre to the east, while Harris Road Park, on Lougheed Highway, adds a community green space near the core. The farmland begins just beyond the town centre, so a short drive or bike ride north on Harris Road quickly leads to blueberry fields, the Pitt River dikes and views of the Golden Ears.
Practical tips
The town centre is very walkable, and parking is generally easy. If you are coming by West Coast Express, note that trains only run on weekdays at peak times, so plan to use the R3 RapidBus for other trips. In summer, combine a visit with a stop at a local farm stand and a ride on the dike trails.
