Landmark Hotpot House: Vancouver's Original Hong Kong-Style Hot Pot Since the 1980s
Landmark Hotpot House on Cambie Street is Vancouver's original Hong Kong-style hot pot restaurant and a Chinese dining institution that has been running for more than 35 years. It ranked No. 4 on the Chinese Restaurant Awards' first Elite 30 Canada list in 2025, ahead of many far newer and flashier restaurants, and it has won Best Hot Pot from the same awards.
Here's how hot pot works at Landmark and what to order.
About Landmark Hotpot
Landmark was founded by Chef David Li Hon-keung, who immigrated to Vancouver in 1979 and worked in Chinatown before opening the restaurant. Now in his eighties, he still oversees the kitchen.
Landmark is known as much for the quality of its seafood as for its broths. Its kitchen has won Chinese Restaurant Awards signature dish honours, including for salt and pepper Dungeness crab, and it is also a favourite for late-night dining.
The Menu
How It Works
Choose one or two soup bases, then order raw ingredients such as thinly sliced beef, seafood, tofu, vegetables and noodles to cook at the table. Many groups also order a cooked seafood dish from the kitchen.
What to Order
- Pork bone soup base: a rich, comforting broth.
- Preserved vegetable and pork stomach soup base: a classic Hong Kong-style broth.
- Whole fish with fried bones: fish slices for the pot, with the bones fried as a crunchy snack.
- Black pepper crab or salt and pepper Dungeness crab: cooked seafood specialties from the kitchen.
- Tofu puffs and deep-fried chicken wings with sour plum: popular extras.
Dietary Needs
Vegetarians can build a meal around vegetable broth and plant-based ingredients; ask staff for options.
